Fire Proof Shelters Should They Be Compulsory?
We have all seen how much devastation a bush fire can unleash in such a short time, if the wind swings around you can be trapped without escape! Yet anyone who had a life saving Fire Shelter installed could protect themselves while the fire past also saving some precious memories as well.
If most people had a Fire Proof Shelter installed I believe most if not all people would have survived the dreaded Black Saturday. Many folks perished trying to flee when they realised there was nowhere to hide on their property so many tried to run for it in their cars and were trapped, unable to see where they were going.
Having an underground purpose built Concrete Fire Shelter would have given people a safe haven, protecting them from the fire and the smoke. The standard size Fire Shelter has enough air for 4 -5 Adults to last 2-3 hours, well and truly enough to out last the dangerous period while the fire passes.
Unfortunately like insurance, many folks will opt out of paying for something if they can, but the difference here is this is insurance against your life not your house or contents. I have no doubt unless there is a program put in place to help get these Fire Bunkers installed in high risk areas, we will see more good people perish from the bush fires that are part of our life here in Australia.
