These are some of the most important questions about Fire Bunkers and Fire Shelters

Can I Get Trapped inside?

NO! you cannot get trapped inside our Fire Shelters because we insist on placing the Fire Bunker in a clear area away from structures and trees.

There are some cases where trees are difficult to avoid, so we look at reducing the proximity of trees and there is also an optional roll cage to protect the Fire Bunker opening.

With our new Fire Shelter design there is a 300mm concrete riser around the hatch opening that makes it impossible to prevent the fire bunker door being opened, even if for some rare circumstance a branch or some other material was over the entry to your Fire Shelter, the door can still be opened to let fresh air in!

The hinges and closing mechanism also have a lot of margin to prevent getting jammed.

We get asked many Fire Shelter questions on a daily basis, so here are the answers to the most frequently asked Fire Bunker questions.

Will I have enough Air?

This is the most important question and one that will separate the slapped together Fire shelters and poorly desinged from highly engineered Fire Bunkers like our!

The answer is; we can guarantee you will have up to 3 hours Air time for 4 adults in our smaller shelter; there is 5 cubic meters of air and our custom designed double sealed hatches are air tight.

You will not get any smoke in our Fire Bunkers nor will the fire be able to suck any air out!

You will have a new level of confidence knowing there is a professional Fire Shelter ready to save you should you ever need it.

Leading expert Geoff Stocker reveals his opinions on the life saving Fire Bunkers and how to best prepare yourself for a Bush Fire.

Australia will never completely escape periodic fire storms such as those experienced on Black Saturday. However, good fire management can have an enormous impact on their extent and intensity. Property losses are perhaps inevitable but the loss of human lives can easily be reduced to a tiny fraction of that recently experienced.

The keys will be systematic fuel reduction burns and the “stay and fight” strategy to be generally adopted but only permitted where a purpose-built fire shelter is within easy reach. There are no realistic alternatives.
In particular the potential for a cataclysmic disaster during a mass evacuation under fire storm conditions is too great to even contemplate.

Geoff Stocker was founding Director of CSIRO’s Tropical Forest Research Centre.

We are finding that people who install our Fire Proof Shelters/Fire Bunkers gain a new confidence in being able to stay and defend, knowing if they get overwhelmed there is a Fire Proof Refuge to guarantee your safety!
